Our Promise

OUR RAW MATERIALS

Our bags are produced with integrity and sustainability in mind. We don't (and never will) use synthetic leather (known to cause cancer to wearers, let alone harm the environment). We are all about using high-quality natural fibres that are designed to be enduring and timeless, meaning that they can be worn over and over again. Not to mention totally biodegradable.

This year we'll, also be looking to join the Leather Working Group  and work with this leading body on improving the processes used by leather manufactures. We hope to be able to work up the leather production chain and focus on traceability and chemical use. We will continue using sustainably sourced leather and work with tanneries who ensure they use chrome safely - and consider all environmental impacts.

OUR BUILT COLLECTION

We're also huge fans of slow fashion. So what is slow fashion?

Instead of creating a single large collection comprising of many bags, we choose to only release two capsule collections a year, with a commitment to products that have longevity in their design – so you’re buying stuff you’ll wear for years, not just one trend season.

We build our collection slowly over time. Adding a new design every so often and slowly build up our collection. We see this as precise production as everything is made in limited quantities to ensure the highest production standard and eliminate excess waste.

We also aim to your feed back on what you (our customers) want and design bags that sell, reducing over production. If you've got a comment head to our Instagram @nikkiwilliams_official or Facebook @nikkiwilliamsco

MINDFULLY MADE & HANDCRAFTED

All our handbags are actually handcrafted, in that people, instead of Terminator-like robots, made it. This value takes handcrafting one step further, by employing and celebrating the traditional skills of real people - especially women.

“With every stitch, a purpose.”

PACKAGING

We use as little packaging as possible. Your new handbag is delivered in a 100% dust bag packed with 100% recycled paper. Our jewellery packaging is composed of 95% recycled paper, using very minimal plastics where possible.

In 2019, we will be phasing out our old plastic packaging bags and introducing our new "Dirt Bags". So what's a dirt bag? Here we'll show you...

Dirt Bag Sustainable PackagingCompost Sustainable Packaging Nikki Williams  Home Compostable Sustainable Packing Nikki Williams

It's made from corn starch with a binding agent/resin added for flexibility. And the best bit … it can be composted at home!

So, when you’ve finished using me, just put me in with your food scraps and garden waste, and before you know it, worms will be eating me for breakfast. Better for the environment, better for our oceans, a better tomorrow.

So why are they black?

If they were white, they would be ever-so-slightly see-through, but if we make them black, they aren’t! Why don’t you make them thicker then? Because if we did so, then they would take a little longer to break down and no longer be certified Home Compostable.

What exactly are they made of?

Packs are made from 100% biodegradable and compostable materials; corn starch, PLA (synthesised from corn) and PBAT (Polybutyrate Adipate Terephthalate). PLA (Polylactide) is a bio-based, biodegradable material made from renewable plant material (starches such as corn husks, rice straw and wheat straw).

Our business model ( E-commerce)

On average, e-commerce uses about 30% less energy than traditional retail. Good news because all of our customers use our online site to make purchases (we're totally all for never getting out of bed either).  Our office, if we need to use paper (like when we print out your invoices) uses Carbon Neutral paper which proudly supports the Breast Cancer Network Australia

It's the small changes things that make a big difference.
