Why following your passion is bad advice!

Why following your passion is bad advice!

I’m a big believer in doing what you’re passionate about, or “following your passion”, but dropping everything to merely follow your dreams may not turn out to be your best move.

I don’t believe that passion is something existing naturally, waiting to be discovered. It takes hard work and planning to develop.

The Story Behind the Marni Clutch

The Story Behind the Marni Clutch

This was the first clutch I ever designed. I made the very first one from some brown suede I had bought in Darwin, Northern Territory of all places. I used cardboard and glue to model the shape and the rest is now history….well a story I should say. It’s a truly unique design and is inspired by my love of suede (I’m really not sure why I like it so much but I do) and my love of braided leather.

Interview with Insight Fashion Magazine

Interview with Insight Fashion Magazine

Can you believe it took me two years to come up with the name NIKKI WILLIAMS. Naming the brand after myself wasn’t what I orginally had in mind, but I just couldn’t find a name that encapulated the brand. We have a simple set of values: Make beautiful handbags. Treat people well. And tell you all the story of the leather goods we make – putting my name to what I do gives it a real honesty.

4 life-changing lessons I have learned

4 life-changing lessons I have learned

Although I am only some-what new to the game, it doesn't stop people asking 'how you you got started in business' and 'what are the lessons I have learned along the way'. As a child, I was always enthralled with people's stories, anybodies. I was particularly intrigued by what people did and why. I still am. I love that people have shared their stories with me - so today I thought I'd share my story.

A handbag is a better investment than the stockmarket...

So what is it about this handbag that makes it worth as much as the average family home? Last month a Birkin bag broke records and became the most expensive handbag in the world. The rare Himalayan crocodile Birkin with white gold detailing and 245 diamonds was bought for an estimated $415,000 by an anonymous buyer at a Christie's auction in Hong Kong.

How to claim a handbags as a tax deduction

How to claim a handbags as a tax deduction

If I think I can claim my soft-sided, smaller handbag that tucks under my arm and doesn't fit a whole lot in I'm probably going to be disappointed. That's because we're arguing the handbag is being used for work-related purposes. That means it essentially has to fulfil the same purpose and function as a briefcase or satchel.

Behind the product - How the Hampton Tote is made

Behind the product - How the Hampton Tote is made

For our first leather bag, I scoured the globe for a factory to produce our Hampton totes, I knew I didn't just want the best–I wanted to find someone who believed in the product we were making and, maybe more importantly, the mission behind it – which is to make high quality luxury bags that don’t cost the earth.
